where L, W, H are in centimetres
Based on standard geometric volume formula (ASTM D7134). Internal dimensions used — external walls excluded. Water density assumed at 1 kg/L (15°C).
Pressure & Height
Hydrostatic Pressure from Height
P (kPa) = ρ × g × h
ρ=1000 kg/m³, g=9.81 m/s²
Derived from hydrostatic pressure law (ISO 4006). Assumes still water, uniform density. Pipe friction losses are not included — use the Pump Head calculator for full system analysis.

R=rainfall mm, A=area m², Cf=runoff coeff.
Based on the Rational Method as defined in the UK CIRIA C539 and Australian AS/NZS 3500.1 rainwater harvesting standards. Runoff coefficients vary by roof material (0.75–0.95).

How do I calculate the volume of a water tank?

For a rectangular tank: Volume (litres) = Length × Width × Height (in cm) ÷ 1,000. For a cylinder: Volume = π × radius² × height ÷ 1,000. Our calculators handle the math and unit conversions automatically — just enter your dimensions.

How big a water tank do I need for my home?
